​My name is John Whitman and I grew up in rural Pennsylvania. I lived in South Carolina for 13 years and recently moved to Akron, Ohio.  I have been teaching visual art since 2001.

​I became interested in wood sculpture while in college at Kutztown University. Within the past five years, I have been concentrating on the figurative form. The pieces on this page show the progression and the process of my work.
